"This is some fucked-up way to make a living, you know that?"
"Familia" is first and foremost a David episode, in which the spirit of a dead gang member encourages David to stand up for himself instead of being a pussy. The other characters, especially Ruth and Claire play a more secondary role within the episode. David and Keith have their first big conflict in this episode, when a stranger calls them fags, which leads Keith to aggressively defend himself, which makes David uncomfortable, as he doesn't want to draw more attention to himself. I think it's a conflict that is very relatable and I must say that I would have been David in that situation. In the end, David learned to stand up for himself a little bit, but it is still a rocky road to self-acceptance for him, as he is only taking baby steps forwards. It's also an important episode for Keith, as we see a more aggressive side of him for the first time, as he has been rather kind and soft up to this point.
